2021 SV Riesling “D”

$32.00

We love Riesling as a variety for its purity, elegance and age ability and believe that our old vines (mostly planted in late 70s) combined with the growing conditions here in Marlborough are capable of making world class Riesling.  Our SV (SV5182) Riesling ‘D’ is a dry style which has excellent fruit weight and concentration to balance the lingering mineral acid structure. This wine is finely structured with great length of flavour.

Tasting Notes

This wine has gorgeous lifted aromas of jasmine, fresh lemon, and ripe Kaffir lime follow through on to the palate. Flavours of fresh lime juice, lemon sorbet and ripe grapefruit with hints of floral spice are balanced by a fine backbone of ripe acidity. This Riesling is a dry style which has excellent fruit weight and concentration to balance the lingering mineral acid structure. This wine is finely structured with great length of flavour.

Lime skin, lemon balm and green apple curls with white lilies, star jasmine and freesia. Candlenut, almond milk and printing paper. It’s awash with zingy acidity that powers the wine down the palate, a grip of mealy tannins adding dimension and breadth. A sprinkle of sea salt salinity, crushed pumice stones and parsnip on the finish. Bone dry. The wine is looking fresh as a daisy and has a very long life ahead.

Exquisitely composed and finely scented, the delicately fragrant bouquet shows lime cordial, jasmine, lemon pith and crunchy apple characters, followed by a finely flowing palate that’s pristine and focused. It’s light on its feet with saline texture backed by perfectly pitched acidity, finishing persistent and gracefully slim. At its best: 2025 to 2036

Cameron Douglas MS – 95 Points Outstanding
Fantastic wine with flavours of crisp red apple and lemon, there’s a hint of lime leaf then pineapple and white spice floral highlights. Crisp, dry, salivating and gently saline. Part of the core within this example is the gentle gun-flint mineral seam that adds breadth and depth, acidity carries the flavours adding to the mouthfeel and some superfine fruit tannins add to the phenolics. Length, salivating and ready to drink as an aperitif or with summer fare. Best drinking from 2025 through 2035+.

Jane Skilton MW – Gourmet Traveler Wine
Vividly fruited with an aroma of succulent green apple sorbet, freshly squeezed lemon and just a hint of flint. Although the wine is subtle and finely boned, there is an impressive purity and concentration leading to a long, focused dry finish. While this will no doubt develop further it is tremendously appealing now
